Temecula Courthouse Wedding Photos + Guide

The life of a wedding photographer is wild. You get the NASA-mission-planner brides emailing you years in advance. Then you have the ‘oh-shit-I-forgot-to-book-a-photographer’ brides, like Lydia, who called me the day before her Temecula courthouse wedding with Ryan. Who cares, right? My job? Show up, exude good vibes, and transform crap lighting and locations into something spectacularly rad. The sun was blasting, surroundings uninspiring, but digging deep for cool shots was the game. And Lydia and Ryan? We met on their wedding day, so no sappy stories here. Just a laid-back, genuinely in love couple. Here’s a snapshot of our hour in Temecula. Cheers!

Temecula Courthouse Wedding

Shooting in soft golden light with epic mountain backdrops is always great, but you know what? Fishing with dynamite doesn’t make you a good fisherman. This is the reason why I have always felt the best wedding photographers are the ones who can capture authentic emotion and good vibes in the worst light and locations. Now, I am not saying the Temecula courthouse is a bad location for a wedding. Honestly, I have seen much rougher places! But, the Temecula Courthouse is simple, office-style-like. Therefore, if you are planning a Temecula courthouse wedding, make sure to hire a Temecula wedding photographer who can get creative, and who focuses on the most important aspects of your wedding: you and your tribe!

Getting Married at the Temecula Courthouse – 5 Steps Every Bride Needs To Know!

If a big, traditional wedding isn’t your vibe, a Temecula courthouse wedding is a smart, stress-free way to make it official. The Riverside County Clerk’s office handles everything from marriage licenses to civil ceremonies, and I’ve seen plenty of couples pull off a meaningful, fun day here. Here’s what you need to know—and a few tips from a local perspective.

1. Marriage License

You’ll need a marriage license before any ceremony. Riverside County issues two types:

  • Public license ($90): Recorded in county records and accessible to the public.
  • Confidential license ($110): Keeps your marriage private.

Pro tip: Fill out the application ahead of time to avoid waiting in line. Bring valid photo ID for both parties and, if recently divorced (within 90 days), a copy of the final decree. You’ll thank yourself for checking all boxes before you get there.

2. Same-Sex Marriage

All couples are welcome. California fully recognizes same-sex marriages, and the process is exactly the same. No extra paperwork, no hoops—just your love story, made official.

3. Requirements

  • Both parties must appear in person.
  • Be 18 or older with valid photo ID.
  • Divorce within 90 days? Bring that final decree.

Missing anything here can delay your wedding day, so double-check before leaving home.

4. Civil Marriage Ceremony

The clerk’s office offers civil ceremonies for $85, and you can even schedule it the same day you pick up your license. While the ceremony itself is short, it’s a legit, official, and surprisingly meaningful way to say “I do.”

Remember: Arrive early and plan for a few quick photos afterward—Temecula’s hills, vineyards, and rustic charm make for beautiful wedding shots without leaving town.

5. Returning the License

After your ceremony, the completed marriage license must be mailed back to:

2724 Gateway Dr, Riverside, CA 92507 within 10 days. This step officially records your marriage in Riverside County—don’t skip it.

For more information, visit the Riverside County Marriage License & Ceremony page on the County Clerk’s website.

Extra Local Tips for a Temecula Courthouse Wedding

  • Timing matters: If you want natural light for photos, aim for a late-morning or early-afternoon ceremony. The sunlight hits Temecula’s rolling hills just right.
  • Photography spots nearby: Grab a few shots at a local vineyard, Old Town Temecula, or a scenic hilltop—you don’t need a huge production to get stunning photos.
  • Keep it personal: Bring a meaningful flower, a small bouquet, or even a vintage bottle of champagne to toast afterward. Courthouse weddings can feel intimate and fun—your day doesn’t have to be “traditional” to be memorable.
  • Plan a mini celebration: Post-ceremony, hit a nearby café, wine bar, or the Ponte Winery Cellar Lounge for photos and a relaxed celebration.

A courthouse wedding in Temecula can be low-stress, meaningful, and even surprisingly romantic. Keep it simple, enjoy your day, and lean on local insights to make it special.

Temecula Courthouse Wedding – Frequently Asked Questions

How Much Does It Cost To Get Married In Temecula?

A public license runs $100, and a confidential one is $110. You and your partner both need to be 18 or older, bring a valid photo ID, and show up together—no texting your spouse-to-be from across town. If either of you recently divorced or ended a domestic partnership (within 90 days), don’t forget a copy of that final decree.

Licenses are only issued at specific locations during set hours, and you’ve got to be sober—sorry, no celebratory mimosas yet. Once you’ve got it, your license is good for 90 days anywhere in California, giving you plenty of time to plan your ceremony in wine country or wherever your hearts desire.
