Mission San Luis Rey Wedding

Oceanside Wedding Photography

One of Southern California’s most unique wedding venues has to be the historic Mission San Luis Rey. Founded way back in 1798, it’s earned the nickname “King of the Missions” for a reason—it’s the largest of all 21 California missions, and the history here is palpable. Walking through the grounds feels like stepping into another century.

The architecture alone is jaw-dropping. Spanish, Moorish, and Mexican influences blend together in a way that feels both grand and warm. No wonder Trevor and Amanda fell in love with the place for their big day! They kicked things off at the Mission, soaking in the history and charm, before we took a quick detour to the beach for some fun, light-filled portraits. There’s something magical about mixing the old-world elegance of the Mission with the natural beauty of the coast—it makes for photos that really pop.

Afterward, we wrapped up the day at Trevor’s parents’ house for a lively, intimate reception. Watching friends and family come together in such a personal space made the celebration feel extra special. The combination of historic elegance, coastal charm, and homey vibes gave their wedding a story all its own.

Below are some snapshots from that incredible day—each one telling a little piece of Trevor and Amanda’s story.

Photographing Weddings At Mission San Luis Rey

Walking into Mission San Luis Rey feels like stepping into history. The church alone? Stunning. Those grand archways, the intricate wooden doors—they scream romance and timeless elegance. Seriously, your camera will be in heaven here.

Step outside, and the gardens are just as dreamy. Vibrant flowers, historic fountains, and plenty of spots for those picture-perfect moments. Honestly, it’s hard not to get lost in the beauty.

A quick heads-up for photographers, though—flash photography isn’t allowed inside the church. That means it can get pretty dark in there, and snapping super-sharp shots without some digital grain? Yeah, tricky. High ISO is your friend here, and a little AI magic in post can help smooth things out. Just make sure you give the couple a heads-up so there are no surprises on the big day.

Wedding photos were captured at Mission San Luis Rey and reception photos were snapped up at the home of Trevor’s parents in Oceanside, California. We partied all night and I am sure their was an abundance of hangovers the next morning. But I am pretty sure all good nights come with bad mornings?
